Upload a payment batch (pain.001, MT103, CSV)

Send hundreds of payments in one file — a payroll run, a supplier run — and let the portal validate before release.

Choosing a file format

The portal accepts three batch formats. Use the one your accounting or treasury system already produces:

  • pain.001 — the ISO 20022 "CustomerCreditTransferInitiation" XML message. The modern standard: one file can carry many payments across several debit accounts, each with structured remittance data. Preferred for SEPA and increasingly for all rails.
  • MT101 / MT103 — the legacy SWIFT text format, still emitted by many ERPs. Each message is one payment instruction.
  • CSV — a simple comma-separated template you can download from the upload screen and fill in from a spreadsheet. Best for ad-hoc batches when your system cannot produce pain.001.

Uploading and validating

  1. 1Go to Payments -> Batch upload and choose the format.
  2. 2Select the file. The portal validates it against the schema (for pain.001, the XSD) and checks every line: IBAN checksums, BIC format, currency vs debit account, and totals.
  3. 3Review the validation summary. Any rejected line shows a reason and can be fixed and re-uploaded without resubmitting the good lines.
  4. 4Confirm the control totals — number of payments and grand total — match what your system exported. This is your reconciliation check before anything moves.
  5. 5Submit the batch for approval. Four-eyes applies to the batch as a whole; on release each payment is screened and sent on its rail.
Important

A pain.001 that fails schema validation is rejected as a whole file, not line by line. If the portal reports a schema error, it names the failing element — fix that element in your source system and re-export rather than editing the XML by hand.

After upload

Each payment in the batch then follows the normal payment lifecycle and appears individually in your payment list with its own status. You can track, trace or query any single payment from the batch as usual.
