Trace a payment with gpi

Find out exactly where a cross-border payment is and whether the beneficiary has been credited.

4 steps about 4 min

Follow these steps

Work top to bottom — each step sets up the next.

  1. 1

    Open the payment

Find the payment in your payment list and open its detail page. Confirm it shows a status of Processing or Settled — a Draft has not been sent yet.

  2. 2

    Copy the UETR

The UETR (unique end-to-end transaction reference) is on the detail page. This is the reference the gpi network tracks.

  3. 3

    Run the trace

Click Trace. The portal queries gpi for that UETR and returns the chain of banks and the current position of the payment.

  4. 4

    Read the result

Look for Credited (delivered to the beneficiary), In progress (still travelling), or a rejection reason. Note any correspondent deductions shown.

If it is stuck at an intermediary, raise an enquiry quoting the UETR so the desk can query that bank directly.
