Sustainable supply chain finance

Ordinary supply chain finance lets a supplier get paid early by discounting an approved invoice. The sustainable version adds a lever: a supplier that meets audited carbon and labour-standard targets earns a cheaper rate than one that does not. Price becomes the incentive to improve.

How the rate is set

Every supplier carries a set of sustainability KPIs — carbon reduction, renewable energy use, an audited labour-standard score, an EcoVadis rating — which combine into one composite score. That score places the supplier on a tier, from Platinum down to Unrated, and each tier earns a discount off the standard financing margin.

So the rate a supplier pays is: the base rate, plus the standard margin, minus the discount their tier has earned. A Platinum supplier pays meaningfully less than a Bronze one for the same invoice — and the saving is the reason to keep improving.

Why the rate is frozen at funding

When an invoice is funded, the rate that applied is written onto it and never changes. If the supplier is reassessed later, that affects future invoices — not the economics of one already settled. A price that was quoted and honoured stays honoured.

Good to know

The supplier's saving is shown on every funded invoice — that number is the incentive doing its work.

A tier can never discount more than the whole margin: the platform will not let a supplier be paid to borrow.
