Onboarding
Your first payment: a quick start
New to the portal? Make a single payment end to end, with the safety checks that protect you.
Before you start
You need three things: the account you will pay from, the beneficiary's bank details, and a second colleague who can approve the payment (four-eyes applies to every payment). Have the beneficiary details from an invoice or signed instruction, not just an email.
Make the payment
- 1Add the beneficiary first (Beneficiaries -> Add), entering their account/IBAN and BIC. The portal validates and resolves the bank so you can confirm it.
- 2Go to Payments -> New payment and choose the rail. For a routine UK sterling payment, Faster Payments; for euros, SEPA; for cross-border, SWIFT.
- 3Select the debit account, the beneficiary, the amount and a reference the beneficiary will recognise.
- 4Submit for approval. Your authoriser reviews and approves it — you cannot approve your own.
- 5Watch the status move to Settled. Keep the reference (and the UETR for a SWIFT payment) in case you need to trace it.
Where to go next
Tip
Once you have made a payment, browse "Understand payment statuses" and "Payment cut-off times" — between them they answer the two questions every new user asks next: where is it, and by when must I send it.
