Payment cut-off times by rail
The daily deadline for same-day value on each rail — and why the portal cut-off is earlier than the scheme's.
Scheme cut-off vs bank cut-off
Every rail has a daily cut-off after which a payment values the next business day. The scheme cut-off is the network's deadline; your bank cut-off is earlier, because the payment still needs approval and sanctions screening before it can be released to the scheme. The portal always shows the effective cut-off on the payment screen — submit before it, not before the scheme time.
Indicative cut-offs
| Rail | Currency | Availability | Same-day cut-off (indicative) |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEPA Instant | EUR | 24/7/365 | None — settles in seconds any time |
| SEPA Credit Transfer | EUR | Business days | Around 15:00 CET |
| Faster Payments | GBP | 24/7 | None — near-instant any time |
| CHAPS | GBP | Business days | Bank cut-off ~15:00-16:00 (scheme 17:40) |
| Fedwire | USD | Business days | Bank cut-off before 18:00 ET Fed close |
| SWIFT (MT103) | Multi | Business days | By currency, typically ~15:00-16:00 local |
Plan around it
These times are indicative and vary by currency and by day (a currency's home-country holiday moves its cut-off or closes the rail). Always trust the cut-off shown on the payment screen for the specific rail and currency you are sending, and leave time for approval before it.
